Club History:
Paulsgrove Karate Club was started in 1984 by Sensei Peter O'Donnell, the club was then formally handed to Sensei Frank Jackson in 1991. Sensei Keith Williams 4th Dan is the current Instructor of the club and has been since 1996.
Club Instructor:
Sensei Keith Williams started his Shotokan Journey in 1984 training under the guidance of Sensei Phill Bryant at the Metropolitan Club, there he stayed till 1985 before he moved to train at Paulsgrove.
In 1991 Keith was advised by Sensei Frank Jackson to suppliment his dan grade preparation with training at Portsmouth Karate club (the Honbu of SEKU), this he did and he has been a key member of the club ever since.
In 1993 Keith represented Portsmouth at the SEKU Championships as part of the 5 man A team. In 1995 Keith was selected onto the SEKU squad and there he has stayed representing the organisation across England, Wales and further afield in Slovakia, Holland, France, Hungary and Brazil.
A seasoned competitor Keith is well aware of the benefits of competing and runs an annual under 16yrs competition at his dojo. The Christmas competition is an event that all competitors enjoy, it celebrates it's 12th anniversary in 2010 and is open to all SEKU clubs.
Sensei Williams is also one of the few Karateka to have made the pilgramage to Japan. In April of 2002 he spent 3 months there, training 4-5 times per day at the JKA Honbu dojo as well as training at Tokyo University dojo.
''A long time successful coach, squad member and club instructor, Sensei Williams epitomises this by demanding and usually getting every last ounce of effort from those in the class. This in no less than his personal expectations which therefore justifies this desire. This ethos has not deterred any of those who attend his sessions.'' -quote from SEKU Squad Manager Terry Oliver
